Scenic River Easements, Ozark National Scenic Riverways.

Description. Totaling nearly 1000 acres the L-A-D Foundation owns and manages properties governed by permanent scenic easements of the National Park Service, Ozark National Scenic Riverways. These lands are situated along both the Current and Jacks Fork Rivers. These occur in the Upper Current for several miles both above and below Akers Ferry. Below Round Spring floaters pass through at least 10 miles of easement lands along one or both sides of the Current River.

Recognition.  Created in 1970, these easements were some of the earliest used by the National Park Service. The experiences here were instructive in later easement applications along the Buffalo National River in Arkansas and elsewhere. They were designed to protect the river resource by prohibiting further development, allowing public recreation, ensuring the scenic integrity of the river corridors, and thereby offering an important measure of protection.

Directions. While individually hard to locate taken together they represent a significant conservation resource.
